WELCOME TO THE GARRICK THEATRE’S 2019 SUMMER SEASON. The Foundation is once again expanding the Garrick's programming and introducing a new name - Garrick Summer Series - to reflect the changes. All performances and events, including those held at other venues, now appear under that heading. Renewed partnerships with Parks Canada and Provincial Historic Sites will bring free afternoon performances to the Ryan Premises and Mockbeggar Plantation historic sites again this year. The inaugural Bonavista Film Festival is scheduled for July 4-5, and the Garrick is holding an outdoor concert on August 3 to coincide with Church Street Festival events on the Public Building grounds. The Foundation has also found an enthusiastic new partner in George's Brook-Milton, sharing the Garrick's programming with that municipality's venue, and further cementing the reputation of the Bonavista Peninsula as a hub for cultural activity. The Foundation is very pleased to collaborate with the renowned Lady Cove Women's Choir this year to host choral concerts at the Garrick on June 29th, and at the beautiful Memorial United Church the following day. Net proceeds from both will be contributed to MUC’s award-winning, decade-long restoration project. On August 5th & 6th, the Alan Doyle Trio will perform on the Garrick main stage in what will be the biggest shows of the summer. Alan, well-known for his generosity, will donate the net proceeds from both back to the theatre. In 2019 the Foundation presents Coastal Women , the first in a series of public history events under the Saltfish banner to explore dimensions of the mammoth international saltfish trade and its role in shaping Newfoundland and Labrador's economy, society and culture over the centuries. With contemporary music, theatre, art, literature, film, food and tours in addition to historical lectures and panel discussions, these events will both enlighten and entertain. Presented by accomplished female artists and scholars , Coastal Women will examine the central but largely unheralded contribution of women to Newfoundland and Labrador in the 19th & 20th centuries. This program would not be possible without the generous support of the many loyal donors, sponsors, volunteers, staff, partners, patrons and presenters, and especially the Town of Bonavista which provides the theatre with an annual operating grant. We look forward to seeing you at the Garrick. Click HERE to see our complete Calendar of Events .
